developer.gnome.org navigation is disorientating
Whenever I use the developer.gnome.org homepage, I end up feeling uncertain about what I'm looking at and where each link is going to send me. I think that there are various reasons for this:
- The three main links are a mixed bag in terms of where they take you (developer.gnome.org/hig/, developer.gnome.org/documentation/introduction/builder.html, developer.gnome.org/documentation/introduction/flatpak.html)
- When you open a link, you are taken to a site that looks very different to the home page
- The home page and the linked subsites don't have any common navigation elements - there's no way to browse between them
- The second block of links includes 3 links to subpages of the docs site and 1 link to the top level, but they're all presented the same way
- When you do get through to the docs site, you are then presented with a whole new navigation schema that you need to get your head around
- The design of the home page itself makes it hard to get an overview. I'm not exactly sure why this is, but some factors are likely that:
- There's no signposting to say what each set of links is
- The page sort of trails off. It's probably because there's not enough content on it.
Part of me wonders whether we should just drop the home page and shuffle things round a bit (move developer.gnome.org/documentation to developer.gnome.org and move the HIG to hig.gnome.org.
