Request for funds for GNOME 45 hackfest in Berlin
- What is your name?
Tobias Bernard
- What are you requesting a budget for? Be as specific as possible.
We're organizing a hackfest/release party around the release of GNOME 45 in Berlin. Since a few people will be in town for All Systems Go from the week before, we want to work on GNOME OS, Local-first and a few other areas of interest.
It's happening on June 15, 16, and 17 in Berlin, at Cultivation Space, a co-working space in Wedding (Gottschedstrasse 4, 13357 Berlin). Since we'll be using the space for the better part of a week we'd like to make a donation to them for hosting us (300 Euro).
We also want to have a release party on the 16th at c-base, for which we also want to make a donation to the space, and buy some drinks, snacks, and a cake.
Since there's a strong GNOME community in and around Berlin it made sense to do the event here, because it minimizes travel and is relatively easy to organize.
- What goals do you have for this request and why are they important for GNOME?
In addition to community building (we'll have a few new-ish contributors who haven't attended in-person events before join), we want to work on GNOME OS, local-first sync, developer tooling, mobile, and some other topics.
More details on the Wiki page.
- How many people will your activity impact? This can be an estimate.
We're expecting around 25 attendees total over the different days.
- How will you measure the impact?
Some concrete and measurable goals:
- Make a plan for and start working on first experiments with local-first tech, in a new or exisiting app
- Make progress towards the new sysext version of GNOME OS
Of course, in addition to actual work we also hope that this will be helpful for community-building, both locally in Berlin and in the wider German/middle-european community.
- What is your requested budget? You can include this in your local currency.
1000 Euro
We might not need that much since we don't know the exact cost of the party, cake etc. yet.
- Is there a date by which you need a decision?
Ideally in the next week or so (e.g. around September 5).
