Proposal: shed some light on the release cycle
We have a wiki page documenting in a quite verbose way how the GNOME release cycle works.
As an end-user I would have been quite interested in a more visual representation, with only the big milestones. I would see a Gantt like representation, starting with 3.36 release and with the following steps:
- t + 5month - UI Freeze: Core applications’ user interface cannot be changed before the release
- t + 5.5month - String Freeze: no text can change in applications anymore, to leave enough time for translations to happen
- t + 6month - Code Freeze: no code can change, to let distributions do the packaging work
- t + 6.5month - New release
🎉
This simplified image with the big milestones can give insight about how we work and when to expect the new releases. It could be shared on Social Media
