Unable to scan - white circle on red stop button just spins
I have a Brother HL-L2395DW. I am Ubuntu 20.04, although I was on 18.04 when I bought this scanner. It worked before, but I think this is the first time I have tried using it since I got 20.04. Apt says my version of simple scan is current, but as you probably know Ubuntu is notoriously slow in updating software. It finds the scanner and reports ready, but clicking scan just gets the white circle spinning. The scanner itself is dead silent. Usually once I click start I can hear it making noise as it gets started. This issue looks similar to #209 (closed), but I am no expert. I followed the advice there:
`malikarumi@Tetuoan2:~$ scanimage -L
device brother4:bus2;dev1 is a Brother HL-L2395DW USB scanner`
`malikarumi@Tetuoan2:~$ sane-find-scanner
...<snip>...
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04f9 [Brother], product=0x0429 [HL-L2395DW series]) at libusb:002:008'
...
'malikarumi@Tetuoan2:~$ export SANE_DEBUG_DLL=255
malikarumi@Tetuoan2:~$ simple-scan --debug
[+0.00s] DEBUG: simple-scan.vala:1720: Starting simple-scan 3.36.3, PID=99239
`
I don't know where to go from here. I didn't get the latest version because I assume it has not been tested with 20.04. Any assistance appreciated.
