Better Support for Folder-Organization / short Folder Tree
I want to start using shotwell but my photos are already organized in Folders. This Usecase doesnt seem to be really well supported.
Shotwell has really nice organisation-ways and tools (tags, ratings, events,..) But I think it should take folders more/better into the Concept. In the End this is how People access their Photos when they Backup / Move to a new Machine / Give Photos to Colleagues/Friends with other Operating Systems... Filesystem-Level is the Basic Level of Compability.
I get the feeling this is not part of the concept because:
-
Even Though I chose a "Library"-Folder the Folder-Tree starts at root (/). I need to open all path to the library-Folder and click many little arrows. As this Path already takes more than half of the width of the sidebar (usual width of tagnames / eventnames) I see only the first three letter of Subfolders in my Collection. I can make the sidebar wider but screenspace is precious in a photo-app. The Folder-View should just start with the Library-Folder as Root, as its not showing any other Folders anyway.
-
The Library-Folder isnt scanned automatically (or offered to be scanned) at setup. So I had to start an "Import" of the Library-Folder. No Big Deal - but feels like folder-collections are something alien to shotwell
-
I want to keep some Duplicates. I want to be asked whether an Import may include Duplicates. No Option for this is the reason for me not to switch to shotwell. I made a separate Issue for that. (#5011)
Thanks so much for Shotwell and all the Work. I hope to use it some day and would gladly recommend it to friends then.
Some Issues have been reported, but this is a new feature/concept-approach i think. #4279 #2805
