Duplicate-Detection should be Opt-Out
I cant use Shotwell for my existing Photo-Collection with folders because it wont Import duplicates.
After Years I tried shotwell again and Im really happy how it evolved. It seems simple yet powerfull (tagging / rating-system). Thousands of my Photos are organized in Folders. I did selections by duplicating Files to other Folders, because Filesystems dont generally support tags / links (like exfat which i use for backups).
With Shotwell ignoring duplicates I cant use it, as Photos are only present in random collections and silently(?!) missing in the others (when imported all at once).
I've read about the compile-time option but this is not a solution in my opinion. I think this is a dealbreaker for many people.
Easiest solution I see is a "ignore duplicates?"-Choice at Import-Time
I see that shotwells core-approach is different with Imports, Events and Tags. But I really think it should take folders / filesystem-level into the Concept. In the End this is how People acess their Photos when they Backup / Move to a new Machine / Give Photos to Friends...
Thanks anyway for the Great Work. I'm looking forward to the future versions
