Original description:
Use case: I am searching photos around a certain date, lets say somewhere in June 2012.
They are not really related to a certain event I could easily spot in the event-thumbnail view.
I know I can open events in june in the tree, but this is not very comfortable as I switch from day to day and then scroll trough the list of photos on that day.
Is there a way to jump to a specific date in the the full-library folder?
It would be also nice if when scrolling trough the full library, the matching event for a photo could be highlighted in the tree.
Any ideas?
Is there something like this already possible or can it be implemented?

One way is to use the saved search mechanism, which supports date range searches: http://www.yorba.org/shotwell/help/search.html

Thanks for the suggestion - but not quite what I am looking for, as it is still complicated to set this up and I basically do not have a clue about the real date range and just want to browse the full collection, but jumping easily to a date.
Something like "open in full library view" in the context menu (similar to "open in file manager") would also be a start.

- Subject changed from How to browse by date? to Browse by date
I've updated the title to better reflect what you're asking for. We've discussed in the past having a view mode that would separate the library (with dividers of some kind) for different criteria: date, tags, events, folder, etc. This would be one way of presenting the library when in that mode.
If implemented, this could be the first stab at that mode, with the others coming behind it.

There's also #2747 (closed), which looks like it might provide some of the desired functionality.
