Failed to get updates but reports "System up to date"
Note: This might be related to #2234 (closed). I'm opening a separate issue, as the symptoms are different. Please mark as duplicate, if needed.
System info:
Distro: Fedora rawhide
$ gnome-software --version
gnome-software 44.0
Description:
This issue happens in rawhide ( in a specific case - refer https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/psa-rawhide-what-to-do-if-switch-to-dnf5-fails-because-dnf-is-protected/84650 ), where dnf4_protected
-> dnf4_unprotected
-> dnf5
path is broken in my case, since my rawhide is still in dnf4_protected
, and did not update to dnf4_unprotected
, when dnf4_unprotected
was made available in repos.
So, dnf update
fails with the following error:
# dnf update
Error:
Problem: The operation would result in removing the following protected packages: dnf
(try to add '--skip-broken' to skip uninstallable packages)
Same with pkcon get-updates
:
$ pkcon get-updates
Getting updates [=========================]
Querying [=========================]
Loading cache [=========================]
Finished [=========================]
Fatal error: Could not depsolve transaction; 1 problem detected:

$ echo $?
7
But, GNOME Software reports that the system is up to date. Clicked on the "Reload" button on the top left multiple times, the result was same.
