Fails to download updates with no error message
Using gnome-software-44.2-1.fc38, if I click the Download button on the updates page, Software fails to download the update and the button switches right back to the Download state as if I had never clicked it:

I see from the system journal that there is some problem with PackageKit:
Jul 03 11:34:52 chargestone-cave PackageKit[48316]: get-updates transaction /84250_cddceecb from uid 1000 finished with success after 1400ms
Jul 03 11:34:52 chargestone-cave PackageKit[48316]: new update-packages transaction /84251_eddbbbeb scheduled from uid 1000
Jul 03 11:34:53 chargestone-cave PackageKit[48316]: update-packages transaction /84251_eddbbbeb from uid 1000 finished with failed after 1221ms
Looking at the gnome-software.log that the issue report template suggested I attach, It's failing because I'm not connected to my corporate VPN and it's trying to update a package from an internal Red Hat repo that it cannot connect to. (I'm going to omit the log file since that's not really interesting. It looks like: Plugin ‘packagekit‘ failed to update apps: Cannot download <package>: All mirrors were tried; Last error: Curl error (6): Couldn't resolve host name ...
)
So the failure to download is not the issue here. The issue here is failure to display any error message in the user interface. Just changing the button back to Download is not an acceptable way to indicate that the download failed. There should be a proper error message presented to the user.
