Unable to get past login shield / lockscreen
Affected version
- OS: Arch & Manjaro (also heard reports of it happening on Ubuntu 20.04)
- Gnome Version: 3.36.4 (or generally since 3.36)
- Occured both on Xorg and Wayland
- Installed extensions:
- KstatusNotifier/Appindicator Support
- Happens both on a Desktop with an AMD GPU and a multimonitor setup, as well as on a single screen Intel Laptop
Bug summary
Entering the correct password and pressing enter immediately clears the password field and does not unlock the screen. Providing a wrong password however does result in the typical timeout.
Note: This might be a duplicate of #2608, although there Alan mentioned "Nothing is clickable," which is not the case in this bug. It is still possible to interact with the login shield normally e.g. to swipe up/down to reveal/hide the password prompt, change the keyboard layout, or open the top right menu which allows brightness/volume change or suspend.
Steps to reproduce
Unfortunately couldn't reproduce it reliably so far.
The bug never occured after explicitely locking the screen (e.g. Super+l) though, but only after either
- a suspend
- a screen blank timeout
Relevant logs, screenshots, screencasts etc.
I think it's best demonstrated in the following short video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VJHj8rJUTBFfn09GB1qLOfizX4yWnr_m/view?usp=sharing Here the correct password is provided 3 times, then once a wrong password is provided (resulting in the timeout), and then another 3 times the correct one, which does seemingly nothing.
This specific occurance happened on an Intel Laptop, after a suspend. https://pastebin.com/GqZJR8WC shows an exerpt from the journal logs. This was quite a long running session, so it's only the logs from the suspend until the recording of the video, which was taken at 18:21 log time.
