Remote Desktop: Show IP address
- gnome-control-center 46.0
- Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
Please include the IP address on the System > Remote Desktop > Desktop Sharing and System > Remote Desktop > Remote Login pages. Currently, only the Hostname is shown but I believe most networks are not set up so that a Hostname is sufficient information for other clients to be able to connect.
The page even admits that "additional information about the device's network location may also be required". So instead of (or in addition to) saying that, why not include the information that many users will need?
Personally, I run ip --color a
in a terminal to look up my host's IP address. Trying to do this through navigating back to Settings > Network (or Settings > Wifi) then click the gear button is tedious without a back button to get back to the Remote Desktop pages.
Finally, if the IP address is shown, there is a question about whether there is any benefit to showing the hostname also.
