Sharing should show ip:port
First of all, sorry if this is not the project to report the following, please forward it to a more appropriate one if that happens to be the case.
Currently, the option to share the Public folder is not useful for a novice and is inconvenient for an experienced user. This is because the url that is announced to the user is simply dav://<hostname>
where the name <hostname>
is not necessarily visible from outside. Worse, the server is listening in a random port unknown to the user, who is left to his own devices to discover both the ip and port.
So, the announced url should be the most simple one that could be accessed from the local network. If that makes the implementation complicated, then it should at least have the format dav://<ip>:<port>
. Every file manager for Android I've used that has the ability to share files report the url as <protocol>://<ip>:<port>
and these are simplistic apps targeted to a very wide public, so I don't think the average user would be scared by such a sequence of numbers and dots.
