Failed to record monitor: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Failed: Unknown Monitor (headless woes)
I am trying to remote desktop into a running wayland Gnome session on a device that occasionally has its monitor unplugged (goes headless). As long as the monitor is plugged in, I can remote desktop into the session. When it is unplugged I receive the following error on the server from gnome-remote-desktop: Failed to record monitor: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Failed: Unknown Monitor
aka you cannot run Gnome Wayland desktop sharing on headless machines. Is there any way around this? Presumably a dummy plug would work but there must be some way to handle this in software, no? When I plug my monitor back in my desktop session is right where I left it so certainly whatever gets turned "off" in Wayland when my monitor is unplugged could just get flipped back on for remote desktop sharing?
Certainly Gnome should support headless mode for Wayland without needless hardware dongles (presuming that works).
I am using v0.1.9-2.fc33 (Fedora 33).
