Enhancement: Remember copy/cut selection when leaving selection mode
Description
Currently, leaving selection mode will discard the copied items. This means that users need to re-select and re-copy everything again. This also makes the "cancel" button destructive. I think it would be better if the selection persisted after leaving the selection mode, so that the user doesn't need to worry about it. Of course, this information only needs to be stored in memory, and should be lost after the application closes.
Design proposal
- When the user leaves selection mode with a clipboard, the "paste" icon should remain intact to allow them to paste
- The paste icon should only appear if a selection exists, and could be in roughly the same place
- In selection mode, the dropdown menu in the center with the options "Select Items" and "Select None" could have an additional entry called "discard clipboard" (or something to that effect) that appears when there is a selection in the clipboard, so the user can clear this clipboard optionally. I think it would fit in well with the design you already have.
