Current behavior
I have two laptops (Lenovo Yoga 710 with i5-7y54, and Lenovo ThinkPad T480s with i7-8650u). I'm running up to date Fedora 40 on both, with the latest version of Podcasts (0.7.1). I subscribe to 26 podcasts. On both laptops I experience that it takes a long time (2-4 minutes) to update podcasts after opening the app - I imagine that downloading updated episode info is text-only and only a very small amount of data? On the ThinkPad, the fans go crazy on starting Podcasts as well, and system monitor shows Podcasts is maxing out several cores. The Yoga is fanless, but system monitor shows very high CPU utilization too. It's unclear to me why pulling a small amount of data should require such high CPU usage, but if it turns out there's a logical reason I guess I'll live with the fan noise :-)
This has been an issue on my setups for a while now (a few months?) but this is the first time I've reported it. I'm happy to provide additional information to resolve the issue - just let me know what you need.
Expected behavior
Open Podcasts, and subscriptions would update quickly (30-60 seconds at most?). CPU utilization should be minimal.
