Tracks without album tag (singles) cannot be directly played from artist's discography view, only in Unknown album under Appears on
This is a reboot of #965 (closed) with the new version of Lollypop v1.4.33.
Now, tracks made by an artist but without album tag (such as singles) are still not directly visible in the artist discography page, however, the Appears on section now shows a special "Unknown" album containing such tracks, as if it was a compilation (similarly to Spotify interface).
This tells us about the existence of such tracks, but the problem is that if you have many singles, the Unknown album is pretty big, so after opening it you still need to manually search for tracks actually made by this artist (and there is no local search feature to only search inside the current album).
In fact, even when we're dealing with proper compilations (with album tag and all), the same issue occurs, where you must open the compilation and look for tracks made by said artist (it's of course not as bad because a compilation doesn't have a potentially infinite number of tracks like Unknown).
I think Spotify has the same issue, however in Rhythmbox you can type the artist name, select it on the Artist column and show all their tracks, regardless of the album they belong to.
In the case of Lollypop, since we already albums belonging 100% to them, I suppose we could just add a "single tracks" section that displays all the tracks not attached to any album, as well as a "tracks in compilation" section that displays all the tracks belonging to albums shared with other artists. Or just a "other tracks" section with the combination of both.
We could however also have a view that shows all tracks of an artist together, regardless of album, like Rhythmbox (good when you want to play all the tracks of your favorite artists in one click).
Oddly enough, I found that if you search for an artist name, their tracks are sometimes shown in the wild under the Tracks section, which is exactly my last suggestion. The issue is that it doesn't happen with all artists, and I have no idea why. Besides, it only shows the first 26 tracks it finds, not all of them.
Sorry for the lack of pictures, but GitLab has a bug preventing copy-paste via keyboard, drag-and-drop and even clicking on the attachment icon at the moment.
