Bug / Feature request: No Album Art / Use pre-existing artist art
Environment
- Lollypop version: 1.4.12
- GTK+ version: Not sure
- Operating system: Linux Mint Mate 20 Ulyana
Feature / Bug
Been using Lollypop for a few days now and liking it.
I suspect it is not a bug, but I can't get artist art to show up yet unless I manually browse for the graphics. :( Web scraping not working for me. Can't find any docs or help to let me know what I'm doing wrong... But that's not the main reason I'm posting this.
Main point: I already have all artist photos and metadata in my library, Lollypop just doesn't see them. I use Kodi at home quite a lot, so my library follows the old school Kodi compatible schema which has this folder structure:
ArtistFolder
--> folder.jpg (<-- artist art!)
--> fanart.jpg (wide format alternate graphic)
--> artist.nfo (artist metadata text)
--> AlbumFolder 1
--> folder.jpg (album art, though this is also embedded in tags of all MP3 and FLAC files per common convention.)
--> song1.mp3
...
--> songN.mp3
--> AlbumFolder 2 (and so on..)
It would be amazing if Lollypop could populate its cache from these folder.jpg and artist.nfo files... From my experience this is a fairly common standard across diverse music players and managers, while also being open and simple from both an end user and a coding perspective.
FYI, I have a very large music library. About 5 years ago I sat down with another program and screened through my almost 600 artists using its web crawler to pick nice photos (helping it manually when it failed on the more rare artists). I specifically decided to do it because the program stored the artist details in this open format. I'm not keen to do that ever again, especially in a proprietary app cache format which will be lost the next time I migrate to a new workstation...
Many thanks and kind regards. PS: Joined your Patreon, as I do believe good software should be paid for! :)
