Automatic backups when target drive is not mounted
As I am moving to a bit more of a mobile lifestyle, I am curious how Dejadup handles automatic backups when the target drive isn't mounted. Not sure if this has been asked before but I couldn't find anything in the FAQs (might be worth adding). Say I have an external drive for backups which isn't mounted when a scheduled backup is due, what does Dejadup actually do in this case?
- Simply error out and not try again until the next due date (not ideal but could be worse)
- Attempt to back up to the target address even if the drive that would be mounted there is not present (very bad as I'm now making a backup to the source drive)
- Silently fail and attempt again periodically, say, every hour, until the target drive is mounted (good - this is what Timeshift does)
- Same as 3 but show a message that a pending backup could not start and will try again in X amount of time, in place of the typical message that a backup has started (ideal scenario)
- Something else entirely (please explain)
I'm asking because I use Dejadup on my laptop and it's not feasible to necessarily connect my external drive every single time I boot it. To be on the safe side, I've been simply doing manual backups. However it would be better to be able to automate this so I don't have to remember to periodically make backups.
