New 'remaining space' check seems overly strict
Problem
Since 44.1, there is a new check to validate enough free space exists on the target device. It seems that this check is too strict, causing backups that worked previously to fail.
Steps To Reproduce
- Use a storage (WebDAV in my case) with ~500 MB of space remaining out of a total of ~4.3 GB.
- Try to back up your files of ~3.5 GB.
- See error
Backup location is too small. Try using a location with at least 6,5 GB free.
.
I realize the numbers in 1 and 2 don't really add up, so I'm assuming that the remaining space loses a bit more due to incremental backups storing metadata. I don't know why 6.5 GB would be needed in total, though, it sounds like a multiplication factor of about 2.0 of the original files to back up.
Expected Result / Possible Solutions
Allow backing up, since enough space is free.
Additional Info
Before 44.1 this worked without running out of disk space. At some point, either the "We need to make a full new back up" message starts showing up if you back up incrementally long enough, or - if size increases too much - you got an 'Out of space' error (at which point clearing the back up and also making a fresh back up solved it).
The storage location I'm using is a remote WebDAV storage with a limited amount of space, hence why I can't increase its size
