Sidebar + hierarchical tags-based workflow
Description
Coming from GTG, and having a bit of a workaholic workflow (I have about 200-300 actionable tasks at any given time, 600 if you count the non-actionable/future/blocked tasks), I really need a tag-based app, where I can:
-
just tag things naturally (in gtg this is done just by having @foo @bar in the task title or description, but I could imagine this being # for hashtags)
-
have colors associated to tags, and those colors would show up simply as a colored dot/square besides the tag (NOT as a whole background thing in the tasks list)
-
ability to have tags be subtags of other tags (and move those relationships at any time) so that when you view the parent tag you also see the child tag's tasks
-
ability to say that certain tags are to be hidden in workview (see bug #762740)
Essentially, this is the notion of "lists" on steroids. I have no use for silos/hermetic lists. Tags are often either project/client names, or names of locations (ex: @home, @guadec, @nuclear_warehouse_B2), device names (@workstation, @phone, etc.)
Ideally, I'd like the ability to have the hierarchical list of tags as a (collapsible) sidebar too, so that you can drag and drop tasks to tags or toggle the (in)visibility of tags for workview, have the tasks count for each tag, etc. But this is not strictly necessary, I think I could live with a modal UI (but this brings the question of "tasks lists sources" vs "tags list" creating two "levels" of modality...
