Mentors
Project length
175h
Description
Assist the GNOME design team in ongoing research activities, to help better understand GNOME's users. Current ongoing research topics include:
- Follow-up to the recent gnome-info-collect data collection exercise, to examine some results in more detail:
- Are high levels of Flatseal usage a reflection of permissions issues in Flatpak?
- What are the motivations for using the GSConnect shell extension?
- What are the motivations for using the third party Extension Manager app?
- Ongoing UX research into onboarding for new GNOME users
- What do people people commonly understand the core GNOME app icons to mean?
The intern will be required to design and carry out research activities, covering at least three research questions (these will be agreed with the mentor as part of the research design). Research methods may include surveys, interviews, and user testing sessions. The intern will then be expected to deliver their research results in the format of a blog post (or series of blog posts).
Requirements
- General familiarity with research design and implementation, including
- Survey design
- Interview design and technique
- Ability to write up research results in blog format
- Will require a computer and internet connection capable of conducting remote interviews
