Future core apps changes
A brief history review:
- 3.22: Major update to core apps set
- 3.26: Music, To Do, and Simple Scan added
- 3.28: To Do removed
- 3.32: Documents removed
- 3.38: New developer tools subcategory: devhelp, dconf-editor, sysprof, and gnome-builder added
- 41: File Roller and gedit removed, Text Editor and Connections added, new mobile subcategory: Calls added
- 42: Screenshot and Terminal removed, Console added, Boxes moved to developer tools
- 43: dspy added to developer tools
- 45: Loupe replaces eog, Snapshot replaces Cheese, Photos removed
So we've had changes every couple releases since 3.22.
The goal is to have just basic utilities and a few important basic functionality tools. We do not have consensus to become so lean as to remove music or video players, for example, but we don't want to have core apps that feel like bloat, either. So less is more here.
I will use this as a tracker issue for sub-issues.
