New static website for gnome.org
gnome.org has used Wordpress for a long time. However, it no longer seems to have news posts on it, so it doesn't seem like Wordpress is needed anymore?
I think that Wordpress has historically inhibited contributions from the rest of the GNOME community. Creating a new static site would allow project members to get involved, and for us to have a more actively maintained website.
This would also be an opportunity for us to refresh the main website, which hasn't changed much for a long time.
Questions:
- What would we do for the Foundation website?
- Would the site need to support translations?
- Which information should go on gnome.org? [1]
[1] We could do a very minimal main website, and then put the rest of the core project information [2] on a docs site. Or we could do a more extensive site which includes all the core information. Either way, taking this opportunity to move core information off the wiki seems like a good step (so that it's centrally managed and maintained, has a purposeful information architecture, and is hosted on Gitlab).
