New content structure for release notes
The release notes have followed the same "formula" for organizing and presenting its content for many years. I am proposing a change to the layout that I hope will lead us towards an easier-to-write release notes process in the future. My proposed format is (in markdown for simplicity, but we can use Mallard if we must):
# Introducing GNOME NN
[Summary and overview of changes, highlighting the big and splashy changes. This section should be no greater than 2 paragraphs, or 3 smaller paragraphs, and can include screenshots or graphics.]
# What's New
[A sentence or two explaining global new changes. (For example, many applications updated to using GTK4 and libadwaita.]
## Desktop & Settings
[Small paragraphs or bulleted list of new features or significant changes made to the shell and control-center.]
## Files
[Smal paragraphs or bulleted list of new features or significant changes made to Files.]
## Web
[... same as above ...]
## Software
[... same as above ...]
## Utilities
[Same as above, but should include Clocks, Logs, System Monitor, etc.]
It's not that different from today, but lends itself to a nice pattern that can make browsing it easier. I've attached a quick draft using this format of GNOME 42 as an example.
