Survey for GNOME Africa
Problem Stated by David Udoka Personally I have noticed that we don't know our community strength by this I mean the background and skills that are dominant. GNOME IRC is a nice place to get started but a lot of people from PAGS have not used this tool before or have difficulty accessing it(Personal Opinion). So assuming we understand our community we can educate them and solve problems like this, which is the purpose of the survey.
Overview: As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the Gnome Africa community and create a more inclusive and empowering environment, we are initiating a comprehensive survey. The aim of this survey is to gain insights into the predominant tech skills, both code and non-code, within the African tech community. This understanding will enable us to tailor our resources, tutorials, and mentorship programs to better serve our community members and channel their skills effectively towards Gnome projects.
Survey Objectives:
- Identify the most common tech skills (programming languages, design, documentation, etc.) present within Gnome Africa.
- Determine the level of expertise in each skill category.
- Gather input on what specific areas community members are most interested in contributing to within Gnome projects.
- Assess the demand for mentorship in certain skill areas and willingness to participate in a mentorship program.
Survey Structure: The survey will be structured to collect both quantitative and qualitative data, ensuring we gain a comprehensive understanding of the community's skills and needs. It will include questions related to coding abilities, design skills, documentation proficiency, and other relevant tech-related expertise. Additionally, open-ended questions will allow community members to provide insights into their areas of interest and any additional skills they possess.
Usage of Survey Data: The collected data will play a crucial role in shaping the future direction of Gnome Africa. We will use the insights to:
- Design a mentorship program that caters to the skill gaps and aspirations of our members.
- Direct community members towards Gnome projects that best align with their skills and interests.
- Identify potential areas for collaboration and contributions that can benefit both the community and Gnome projects.
Participation: We encourage all members of Gnome Africa to participate in this survey. Your input is invaluable in shaping the community's growth and impact. We need to deliberate on this if we can make the idea better.
