Usage of clippings in SVG icons
Hi, I just wanted to put up for discussion whether or not the new SVG app icons should make use of clippings.
Clippings don't work with QT since as opposed to librsvg
Qt SVG
only implements the SVG Tiny spec.
This makes the icons look savagely broken whenever viewd by any Qt-using software. The following screenshot shows the new Yelp icon as seen in Nomacs 3.12 (Qt 5.11.2), a Qt image viewer.
Apart from the Qt issue clippings often cause rendering issues even when rendered by librsvg
. One instance is these "jaggy contours" whenever two overlapping differently coloured shapes share the same outline (again the Yelp icon):
Working around the "jaggy contours" is a trivial yet sometimes fiddly task. I've done this for hundreds of Numix icons and check the new GNOME icons if desirable.
