Application slug and version number
There is a big thing to discuss. In the past few weeks, I thought about how to release Asunder 'gk3' while Asunder 'gtk2' is still available. As such, It's import to also talk about application slugs.
Lets talk slugs
The Asunder slug is ca.littlesvr.asunder
which uses a reverse-url schema based on the official Free Desktop standard:
https://www.freedesktop.org/software/appstream/docs/chap-Metadata.html
Now, right now all code makes reference to ca.littlesvr.asunder
but this url is obviously already owned and controlled by Andrew, who still maintains the 'gtk2' version. As such, it will be important to plan ahead. Simmply put, there are two scenarios:
-
Andrew green-lights 'gtk3' in which case we can use the application slug and we can use the same deployment pipelines and Flathub packages.
-
We change the Application name to Asunder Next, and we change the slug to something else like
org.gnome.gitlab.asunder
or (pending approval)io.gnome.asunder
^1 so that there can be multiple versions of Asunder side by side.
Version numbers
Seeing that Asunder is still on 2.9.x, I would recommend going to Asunder 3.0.x. After all, this package will not be compatible with the existing gtk2 stack.
