Line wrapping introduces CRASH or garbage when resizing window
Hi,
I noticed some problems with wrapping long lines when the terminal window is resized.
This happens with both gnome-terminal
and tilix
, and I can see some form of the problem in both bash
and zsh
, so I though it might be vte
.
I tested on Debian with gnome-terminal 3.34.0
which uses VTE 0.58.0 +BIDI +GNUTLS
.
I can reproduce with these steps:
- set a prompt which shows the current working directory:
PS1='\u@\h:\w\$ '
PROMPT='%n@%m %~ %# '
- cd to a directory with a very long name;
- resize the window horizontally with the mouse multiple times to make the directory name wrap;
- observe some garbage building up at each resize.
Sometimes the window even closes after a few resizes, I can investigate on the crash if needed.
Warning: when using color prompts some involuntary art may also be created. :)
Thanks, Antonio
