Problem with copy-paste

Description
Copy paste seems to work badly if you don't release the mouse button when you hit the copy keybinding. To recreate:
- Run any program to generate some output like "ls /"
- Select an area of text and keep hold the left mouse button down. Do not
release until after step
#3
. - Hit
<ctrl>``<shift>
C to copy while the left mouse button is still held down. The behavior is a bit different whether you hit<ctrl>
or<shift>
first, but it seems to misbehave either way. - Now release the mouse button.
Note that the selection area changes from what was selected to what seems to be a box that roughly includes only whatever characters are between the points where the mouse button was first held down and where the mouse button currently is.
Now in another window try to paste, and it doesn't seem that steps 1-3 actually copied anything into the past-buffer. If you did a copy of a selection before steps 1-3, then that gets pasted.
This problem was also reported to the OpenSolaris bugzilla here with some more information, screen shots, etc.

It doesn't seem that whether or not the person keeps the mouse button held down or not should affect how copy-paste works. It seems some users find this messes up their ability to use gnome-terminal effectively.
