Cutting/Copying Japanese text

Description
At present, when I click on some Japanese text in order to copy it to another application, it "grabs" all the adjacent spaces and punctuation and only stops at an ASCII character. This is very frustrating, as I only ever want the Japanese text itself. Can the handling of Japanese text be made consistent with that of European languages, i.e. the grab stops at punctuation and other whitespace characters.
Other information: You may want to try and match the old kterm (kanji terminal) application, It does it right. Actually MLTERM is better than Gnome terminal in this respect.
