Add negation of search term to search bar searches/filtering

Description
It'd be nice if you could negate search terms in the quick search bar/filter bar. I've come from F-Spot and I'm used to being able to add my tags and "not tag" as a search term.
As an example, think of family photos. You tag the people in them. You tag the location. You add them to an event. If you want to do a one-off search for birthday photos in all locations other than London then you can't. It'd be great to be able to go "Fred birthday -London" and have it filter all photos tagged "Fred" and "birthday" and not tagged "London".
This seems to be similar to "Filter on UNION tags of visible photos" (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=717013), but I don't believe that implementing that feature request would quite do everything that I'm thinking of (or it'd be more long and complicated with more UI, if it could).
