Original description:
I had this discussion with a user on the mailing list:
Hi Siegfied,
But, -but the recreating of the thumbs
does not happen in one sweep,
-shotwell stops first after 200 thumbs
( I have around over 19000 fotos
and videos), the only way to convince
shotwell it should continue to
work is to click one of the blank thumbs.
All you should have to do is scroll the blank thumbnails into view and then wait. Shotwell will automatically enqueue background tasks to thumbnail the photos. Unfortunately, for a 19000 photo library, this is going to take a while. Large RAW photos easily require 5 seconds to thumbnail. Videos can require a similar amount of time. If half of the media items in your library are RAWs and/or videos, we're talking 9500 * 5 = 47500 seconds =
792 minutes = 13 hours. My belief is that if you wait long enough, you should be okay.
Take care,
Lucas
Since the order in which Shotwell regenerates thumbnails isn't necessarily the same as the current display order if you're changing views, etc., it can appear as if nothing is happening even though thumbnails are being regenerated. We should show the background progress bar to give the user some feedback while this is going on.
