Original description:
I am using shotwell on ubuntu. I would like to be able to access the shotwell library (events, albums/labels, keywords with image previews) from outside shotwell - i.e. from the file-manager (Nautilus) or the file (upload) dialog in the webbrowser (i.e. Firefox - not sure if this is also provided by the default file-manager) and other system file dialogs like the one to choose the desktop background or open file (in other programs). I am not sure if this could be done by shotwell or shotwell may provide a plugin for the file managers. Apples iPhoto is doing this very well and I am missing this function on Linux.
Why do we need this? Because the user is used to access his fotos by events, keywords or just have a long list with all fotos. If he want's to access the fotos from somewhere else he has to deal with a complete different structure - something like images/2013/05/23/DSCN2930.jpg. This is not very user friendly.
I am not sure if it's possible to implement this feature into file-manager and if there is an easy way. Maybe shotwell could create a fake folder-structure using symlinks named by the shotwell events, keywords/albums.

This would require something akin to #1698 (closed) to work.
