Original author: Michael Gratton
Original description:
Shotwell 0.15 is refusing to import MPEG4 videos that were shot on my HTC One X phone. On importing the directory containing 12 such videos and nothing else, the message "12 non-image files skipped." is reported with a Save Details button, and and on saving the details, the following is reported:
/home/mjg/incoming/100MEDIA/VIDEO0001.mp4
error message:
I.e. a blank error message for every video.
I don't think this is related to 6062, since I don't see any of those GStreamer errors on the console.
I'm running Ubuntu 13.10 64-bit, using the GNOME3 staging PPA. Totem can play the videos fine, and both Shotwell and Totem are linked against GStreamer 1.0, so it might not be a GStreamer issue.
Related issues:
- related to shotwell - 6062: Shotwell fails to import mp4 files (Fixed)

- Category set to import
- Status changed from Open to Need Information
If you run Shotwell according to this page (http://redmine.yorba.org/projects/shotwell/wiki/ReportingABug#Additional- information) you should get some log output as you import. Can you add that here?

Running "SHOTWELL_LOG=1 shotwell" to obtain the log file, the relevant
part when I try to import one video by drag and drop is:
L 5891 2013-11-14 14:54:02 [DBG] LibraryWindow.vala:979: failed to retrieve SelectionData
L 5891 2013-11-14 14:54:06 [WRN] BatchImport.vala:1381: Import failure /home/mjg/incoming/100MEDIA/VIDEO0001.mp4: Not an image file
L 5891 2013-11-14 14:54:07 [DBG] Page.vala:133: Page Importing... Destroyed
When I import using using File > Import From Folder, then only the last
line above is printed, but a dialog with a different message pops up:
"No photos or videos imported."
Do you want the full log attached?

In Nautilus, right-click on the file and choose Properties. One of the fields is Type. What does it say for that video file?
