Hi Phil,
We're not entirely clear about what you mean. Could you write up the bug report in your native language and then use Google Translate to translate it into English, perhaps?
Thanks,
Lucas

Sorry I wish I could edit the 1st message in this thread ,
because it misses some important words :
( I am USING CHEESE ON a system that DOES NOT provide totem ...)
But I feel I can do better that google translate (cherry me up)
Anyway to say in other words :
When recording a video using cheese (ok not a shotwell bug) ,
the webm file's thumbnail generation
could be done using gnome-desktop and shotwell-video-thumbnailer
(if /usr/bin/totem-video-thumbnailer is not present else it works fine)
But apparently gnome-desktop cant use it
maybe because it miss a wrapper script
like totem one : /usr/share/thumbnailers/totem.thumbnailer
Or maybe shotwell-video-thumbnailer is not planned to be supported by gnome- desktop ?
Hope it is better now, else I will add more details (or a patch)...

@Phil:
So, just to confirm, are you saying that you are trying to use Shotwell Video Thumbnailer without Shotwell? This is to say, are you invoking shotwell- video-thumbnailer on the command line yourself, or through a script, or via Cheese? Because if this is the case, this is not a bug: shotwell-video- thumbnailer is not a general-purpose thumbnailer and is not designed to operate outside of Shotwell.

ok this is clear to me now
Any hints to make it work like a general-purpose thumbmailer are welcome...
Now you can close this bug or set it invalid ...

- Status changed from Need Information to 5
- Resolution set to wontfix
Hi again, Phil,
There aren't any current plans to turn Shotwell's current thumbnailer into a general-purpose one, but if you'd like to do some work on this on your own, here's how it works:
- Initialize GStreamer, set up a sink and such
- For the specified video file, navigate to exactly one second
- Set the video's state to 'paused'
- Extract the frame it would display into a GDK pixbuf
- Copy the pixbuf from step four to stdout
Presumably, some glue code to get the pixbuf from step five to where your file manager can see/use/save it would be all that's needed.
