Original description:
In my photo albums I often includes photos of several devices. Sometimes I need to make some adjustments seconds to correctly sort by date photos.
In the left panel, the time does not display seconds. I must choose a target picture and choose to adjust the time to learn the second. Then I close that box to change the actual picture that interests me.
Is it possible to display seconds in the left panel?

We don't want to display seconds in the Basic Information pane because they are uninteresting for most users. I suppose we could consider displaying the complete time including seconds in the Extended Information window. Would that be helpful for you?

if the Extended Information window remains in the foreground when using shotwell is usable like this.
Sometimes I use a netbook, the small screen is a bit small but again it should be usable.

- Priority changed from Normal to High
We're planning to move the extended information view into a new sidebar on the right, which should make this more usable especially on small screens. See #1918 (closed).

Adding seconds to the date displayed in the left panel, also using the "%-I" format instead of "%I" for the hour, this gives "6:30 PM" instead of " 6:30 PM" (no leading space if hour starts with a 0) which I think is a little nicer.

Joseph, trying out your patch, you're adding seconds to the Basic Information pane in the left panel. If you read Adam's comments above, what we'd prefer is displaying the seconds in the Extended Information pane, which is designed for finer detail about a photo. This would mean adding a new line to Extended Information (which doesn't show the time currently). Thanks!

Sorry, misread. Do we want both date & time in the extended box or time only?

Both would make sense.

Take a look let me know what you think.
On related notes
-
it'll be really nice to have this on the right sidebar
-
how about adding "view extended information" to the right click context menu?
-
I think the ordering of information in this window is somewhat arbitrary (which lead to me just sticking date & time in without much justification for position), maybe we could reorder it a little?

Thanks for the patch, Joe, we'll take a look at it shortly.
To respond:
- The right sidebar is something we've talked about for a while (#1918 (closed)). It does seem to make sense. That's a bigger feature, though, especially since some of our discussion internally has been to move more than just Extended Information there (for example, put the editing tool controls there as well).
- We're ardent about keeping the right-click context menu down to the bare essentials. I don't think at this point Extended Information makes the cut.
- I'm happy to consider the ordering of Extended Information's items. If you have a proposal, please feel free to open a ticket listing the order you think they should be in, and why. I'm also open to sprucing it up a little bit. Right now it's a flat list; something more tabular might make sense, to take advantage of the space there.

@Joe:
Could you submit an updated version of your patch diff'd against today's master? Because of the recent work we've done on photo comments & event comments (both of which also touch the Extended Information pane) Properties.vala has changed dramatically in the last week and your patch no longer applies, giving the error message:
lucas$ git apply ~/Downloads/issue_5709_1359510018.patch
error: patch failed: src/Properties.vala:467
error: src/Properties.vala: patch does not apply
