Hello.
Shotwell is great for managing photos, until you have too much of them (and as me, you have 120Gb SSD in notebook). So I bought myself huge external HDD and wanted to move photos there -- but I've found it to be very unusable to store each day in separate year/month/day collection. There's good rule called "flat is better than nested", and I find this to be exactly the case.
I propose to store each day in directory named, for example, "2012-05-28", so that if you want to migrate from shotwell, you just copy that and name it "2012-05-28 my birthday party" at your external HDD (actually, it would be awesome if shotwell would be able to name folder same as album).
What do you think?

Shotwell can already store photos in flat folders like this. To enable that, go to Preferences->Library and change the "Directory structure:" setting to Year-Month-Day.
As you've suggested, it would be nice if Shotwell could include the event name in folder names. That's #3549 (closed). I'll mark this as a duplicate of that ticket.
