Original description:
As everyone in the world knows, Android 4.0, codenamed "Ice Cream Sandwich" was just released. Unfortunately, it seems like we can't read photos from some (if not all) Android 4.x devices. This appears to be a gPhoto problem. That said, a new version of gPhoto (2.5) has just been released. This might correct the problem, but we currently can't use this version of the library in Shotwell because it's API-incompatible with gPhoto 2.4.x.
When we can find some time (and an Android 4.x device), we should investigate this problem thoroughly.

That's great to hear Fabien. I would like to hear from at least one more person before closing this ticket. For anyone playing along at home, here's what you would need to do:
- Back up your current Shotwell data. Upgrading to a new version may perform some data migration that can't be reverted: http://redmine.yorba.org/projects/shotwell/wiki/ShotwellFAQ#How-can-I-back-up-my-Shotwell-library
- Install gPhoto 2.5. You'll need to build and install libgphoto from their tarball: http://sourceforge.net/projects/gphoto/files/
- Build Shotwell from our git repository. You can't run Shotwell from our Daily Build PPA because gPhoto 2.5 must be installed before building Shotwell. To build from source, follow the steps on our web site: http://www.yorba.org/shotwell/install.html
- Once installed, run Shotwell.
- Attach your Android 4 device to your computer. Import photos like you've done in the past.
If all goes well, you should be able to import photos without problems. Either way, please leave a comment on this ticket or mail the Shotwell team at shotwell@yorba.org. Thanks!

Confirmed by another Android 4 user. From the horse's mouth:
Worked great! Xubuntu 12.04, Nexus 4, Android 4.2.whatever, latest Shotwell pulled from git, libGPhoto 2.5.whatever. (Of course I had to tell my phone to "connect as a camera (PTP)" -- it defaulted to MTP.)
One other note: it sounds like our configure script and/or wiki have out of date install dependencies:
Minor hiccup with the build, FYI: the configure script didn't mention that I needed gstreamer 1.0 -- hadda install the backport from here:
https://launchpad.net/~gstreamer- developers/+archive/ppa?field.series_filter=precise
Then install a few of those dev packages. Not sure that matters, if you guys have user-facing docs about building on whatever Linux distro, etc. etc. etc.
I'll let someone more familiar with the Shotwell build process and our PPAs update the configure script and/or wiki as they see fit.
