Original description:
To see the problem, click on the Events item in the sidebar. You'll see this assertion:
GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_new_subpixbuf: assertion `src_x >= 0 && src_x + width <= src_pixbuf->width' failed

These are both two artifacts of an underlying problem, namely different parts of the app no longer agree about what the width and the height of the image are.
There is one other symptom that can lead to a crash; it can be triggered like so:
- Import an image with a rotated orientation in the EXIF data (such as left-top).
- Open the image in full-window mode.
- Zoom all the way in (notice that distortion occurs).
- Pan all the way to the right edge of the image.
Notice that, at this point, the application will abort.
