Original author: Laura Khalil
Original description:
For Shotwell users who have never published a video to YouTube (but have a YouTube account because they have a Google account) will receive an "account not ready" error message upon attempting to publish to this service.
What needs to happen before they can successfully publish to YouTube is that they'll need to go onto YouTube.com and publish a first video through the website interface. Then they'll be able to publish to YouTube via Shotwell.
Our error message should be rewritten to reflect this. Something like:
"Activate your YouTube account"
"Before you can publish videos to YouTube using Shotwell, you'll need to visit YouTube.com to activate your account. Please visit YouTube.com and publish one video through its uploader. After doing this, your account will be activated. Restart Shotwell and you'll be able to upload all your videos in the future."

We already have this functionality in the Picasa Connector, which is symmetric to the YouTube connector in most ways since they're both GData services. The Picasa message string can be found in $(PROJECT_ROOT)/plugins/shotwell- publishing/PicasaPublishing.vala at line 828 and reads "The email address and password you entered correspond to a Google account that isn't set up for use with Picasa Web Albums. You can set up most accounts by using your browser to log into the Picasa Web Albums site at least once. To try again, re-enter your email address and password below."

Unfortunately, logging in is not sufficient. The user actually has to perform an action (such as uploading a video) within the service to activate the account.
