That's a good idea : I don't want my original photo to be modified.
But for photo rotations, I would like to apply them physically (if I open my photo in gnome file manager (nautilus), they are not rotated).
It would be great to have an option (a button for example) "apply changes physically", which applies all the changes on the selected original photo (with a confirmation message).
Alternatively, in preferences, maybe add a checkbox "apply rotations physically" (I don't want to write tags and other metadata, but I want to apply the rotation).
What do you think ?

Jim and I discussed this briefly. Jim, I think you said that when the user rotates a photo, Shotwell should immediately write out the new rotation to the photo's EXIF data. I tried that and Shotwell does not actually seem to do that. If it did, I think it would make this user happy, even if we don't rotate the actual pixel data. So I'm not so sure that this is a duplicate of #2581 (closed). Reopening; we can discuss more.
