Original description:
Here's an oddity: In Nautilus, select a RAW photo and a JPEG photo that have the same basename and are in the same folder. Drag them into Shotwell. You'll end up with a RAW+JPEG photo, despite the face that Shotwell is really only supposed to import RAW+JPEG from cameras at this point!
Strictly speaking this is a bug, since I think that dragging in the containing folder (which will import the RAW and JPEG photos separately) should be equivalent to dragging in the files themselves. I'm slightly tempted not to fix this, however, since it is a convenient hack for testing RAW+JPEG even if you don't happen to have a RAW-capable camera handy.

Hm - this even works for groups of files. If I select all files in a folder which contains lots of RAW+JPEG pairs and drag them all together into Shotwell, then Shotwell actually imports them all as RAW+JPEG pairs.

I'm inclined to call this a feature, not a bug. But I won't mark it as wontfix until the team can discuss it tomorrow.

However, if you drag in the folder containing the files, they won't be paired.

Rather than fixing this, we decided this was the expected behavior and patched things up so importing from a folder (see #3977 (closed)) worked as well.
