Happy new user reporting.
If you have a collection of photos from various photographers you might want to see the photos from one certain author. Searching for "Canon" should show all photos takes with a Canon camera, like the "Canon EOS 400D DIGITAL", as stored in the metadata of photos taken with such a camera. Similarly searching for "W55" would return photos taken with a "SONY DSC-W55".
I would be cautious about implementing searching for numerical metadata fields like "focal length", "original dimensions" and "exposure", as searching for numerical camera models and the like then easily could flood the results with unwanted photos. Implement with care :)
The fields that can safely be searched for includ "Camera make", "Camera model", "Artist", "Copyright" and "Software". Hower, a user looking for photos of his 20'th birthday will not wat to see all the photos taken with a "Canon PowerShot SX200 IS" when he searches for "20", and hence it would probably be good to hide metadata seaching goodness behind a button. Possibly a button reading "EXIF" with the tooltip "Also search in EXIF metadata".
My idea for a Feature, hope you like it too,
Best regards, OJ

Hello OJ,
Thanks for your suggestion, we'll keep it in mind as we move forward. We prefer if the core Shotwell team set Target versions in the ticketing system, as those indicate the features and bugs we've all agreed upon for that release. We'll definitely keep your suggestion in mind when we plan our 0.12 release. Thanks!

Right, that makes sense. I just copied that way of filing a ticket from Adam Dingle, without noticing that he is part of the Shotwell team :)
Kinda cool to see ones ticket get upgraded to "high" in priority! Thanks!

+1 for me for this feature request :-)
I have all my photos in Shotwell (27000, which Shotwell handles perfectly) and I would love the ability to sort. filter & search by camera model (and ideally other exif data such as focal length)
I hope you can find time to add this in a release some time soon
thanks for a great program!
