Original description:
On Natty the sidebar can be unresponsive during importing, taking upwards of 5 seconds to respond. Expanding and collapsing event menus occasionally yields the following assertion:
Gtk-%(=caps)CRITICAL% **: IA!+gtk_tree_path_compare: assertion `a != NULL' failed

I tried to reproduce this on Oneiric. At least when importing existing photo files from my hard drive, the sidebar is completely responsive while importing, so I don't see a problem there. I do, however, see the assertion Vera mentioned when I open and close sidebar nodes while the import is in progress.

I don't think this behavior still occurs with the Gtk+ 3.0 tree widget. Clinton, can you verify and, if this behavior does no longer occur, close this ticket?
