Original author: Craig Barnes
Original description:
As a total philistine who cares very little for the mantra of “never delete the originals†and who would like to save some disk/Picasa space, I was just wondering if WebP support in Shotwell manager/viewer is currently under consideration.
I know it's probably quite low priority at the moment but I just wanted to put this out there anyway.

It depends what you mean by “support.â€
Any video format that your system recognizes via mime type should be recognized by Shotwell. However, we don't currently support timestamps of WebP videos.

Oops sorry, I was thinking WebM, not WebP (who picks these names?!)
Currently we'd need a Gnome library to interpret these images. But it's possible we'll add this at some point.

I'm also interested in WebP format. I may be available to collaborate hacking and testing it.
Here is something interesting:
I am developing a GDK Pixbuf Loader for WebP
from [Decoding a WebP image by chunks](https://groups.google.com/a/webmproject.org/group/webp- discuss/browse_thread/thread/a175cfbacaf950dc/) thread.
