Original description:
Hi!
I've noticed that when you import your photos in russian version of shotwell 0.9.2 left panel becomes too wide (because of translation, I guess). Would be glad if you fix that. Thank you very much.

??!
Yes, that string seems too long, and s? I think this is a fundamentally a translation problem. The English string is
Preparing to auto-import photos…
How about this in Russian?
?????? ? ??????????? ??????????…
Or would you suggest something even shorter?

would be even better) But I thought things like that should be solved by app design.

If you have an app design suggestion for how this could work better, we'd be happy to hear it!
Assuming we simply want to make the string shorter, it might be nice if the message could somehow indicate that this is an auto-import operation, i.e. one which the user didn't initiate. But maybe there's simply no room for that. I assume that????-?????????????? would sound strange in Russian.

what's that “auto-import†anyway? I mean, as a user I don't quite get it at all (why auto?). So from user's prospective it would be even better to just write “Preparing to importâ€.

Shotwell can import two photos in two ways:
The user initiates the import by dragging in a folder or choosing File->Import. We call this manual importing.
Shotwell notices that new files have appeared in the library directory and imports them automatically. We call this auto-importing.

Oh, now I get it. Thanks for explanation.
But:
-
I initiated that import by clicking “file -> import folderâ€
-
Really, as a user I still don't care. I mean, if I didn't do anything and shotwell starts to do importing -- I'm not stupid, I'll understand that it's automatic) So I still don't get why you need to write “Preparing to do auto- import†instead of “Preparing to importâ€)
So, if you still think we need to write auto-import --
?????? ? ??-????????????…
is ok. If you changed your mind --
Preparing to import
(even without three dots) is the best way.
Thank you.

And it's not just about photos now (because videos are imported too), so writing “photos†doesn't make sense anymore)

Just a string fix, so we may as well include this in 0.9.3.

OK – I've changed the string to
?????? ? ??-????????????…
for consistency with the translations in other languages.
