Original description:
Shotwell's Image Settings tab in the Print dialog lets the user specify a number of pixels per inch for output. This is unusual for a GNOME application: Eye of GNOME, GIMP and F-Spot all do not provide such a setting. I think this is potentially confusing for users, and the Image Quality tab already lets a user specify the print quality (= dpi) to be used. So I think we should possibly eliminate this, though I'd like to talk to Lucas more about this.

One thing is the printer resolution, and completely different image resolutions.
Image resolution is very important to adjust, especially for those people with older hardware.

- Subject changed from possibly eliminate pixels per inch field in print dialog to enhance pixels per inch field in print dialog
I discussed with Lucas. It turns out that setting pixels per inch is sometimes useful for advanced users who know what they're doing. Specifically, when printing high-resolution images, such users may sometimes want to send fewer pixels than are present in a photo to a printer to make printing faster. This might or might not come at the expense of image quality, depending on the DPI that you're printing at.
We reached the following conclusion. We'd like to replace the text field with a drop-down box with two values, Automatic and Custom. When set to the default value, Automatic, Shotwell will send all available pixels to the printer (which is what, presumably, Eye of GNOME and GIMP do when printing). If the user selects Custom, we'll display a text field where the user can enter a number, just as in the existing interface. I think this will improve usability, because users will see the word Automatic and know they don't need to change anything.

When printing multiple images on page set image resolution is necessary.
We could change manual input with select common used resolution:
Default
72 ppi
150 ppi
300 ppi
600 ppi
1200 ppi
I think that there is no need for manual input.

We're now past feature freeze, so let's postpone this until 0.10.
