Searchable id: yorba-bug-3357
Original author: Oystein Walle
Original description:
When I import some videos they are imported by their last accessed date instead of the date they were actually filmed. I have attached an example and in this case the video is copied to 2010/10/19. Right-clicking on the file in Nautilus reveals that this is the last accessed date.
Interestingly, afterwards Shotwell is correctly able to understand when the video was actually filmed, which in this case is July 22, 2010. This bug is annoying since after moving around some folders and files I have yet to import into Shotwell I have a huge amount of videos which gets imported into 2010/10/19.
I hope this is an easy fix and makes it into 0.9.0 :)

I forgot to mention that this bug was discovered in revision 2740 as well as the stable release, so this is part of the 0.9.0 testing :) Also, my video example is too large, so I've uploaded it here. I was afraid to modify the file in case some metadate would be stripped.
Edit: Of course, when you download this file and import it, it should be copied to 2011/03/15! At least that happens to me.

Thanks for the bug report – good catch. I can reproduce this easily. Yes, we should fix this for 0.9.

Changing this bug to file import only. That's what's mentioned in the description, and that's actually a much smaller problem than reading the correct date for videos off the camera.
For now, videos from a camera will continue to use the file's last modified time.
I've opened ticket #3360 (closed) for the camera import case.

Good call: let's fix this only for file import for 0.9. For videos on a camera, the last modified time should be close to the video recording time anyway, so I think we can live with using the last modified time for those for this release.
