Opening image in external editor sets aspect ratio to 1:1 in shotwell
Shotwell version the issue was seen with
0.31.1 (on Fedora 31)
The expected behaviour
Opening an image with an external editor doesn't change the aspect ratio of the image - unless the image is cropped/edited in the external editor.
What was actually happening
Opening an image in an external editor immediately changes the aspect ratio of the image to 1:1 (square) in shotwell, while looking normal in the external editor. Shotwell keeps this aspect ratio even if the image is cropped/edited later on in the external editor.
Steps to reproduce the issue
- Pick a single image in shotwell v0.31.1
- Either open it in single view or select it in the overview
- Right click the image and select "Open in External Editor" (or similar named, I'm using it in German, sorry
😅 ) - Notice that the image ratio of the thumbnail and the single view image is transformed to 1:1
- Right click on "Restore Original" (or similar named
😅 ) - Repeat - seems to happen every time for me
🙂
Here's a short screen recording of the behaviour on my laptop. (Off-screen, the external editor started is GIMP/Glimpse, tried both - in case this is of interest)
