Original author: Clinton Rogers
Original description:
To reproduce:
Connect a camera to the computer and mount it as a storage device.
With Shotwell open, drag and drop a video file onto it from the camera, and choose 'Import in place'.
While the camera is reading the media, physically disconnect it from the computer and observe the results.
Notice that, if these steps are timed correctly, Shotwell will crash, and the following message is displayed on the console:
** Message: Error: Could not open file "/home/clinton/.gvfs/gphoto2 mount on usb%3A002,008/DCIM/107___02/MVI_1760.AVI" for reading.gstfilesrc.c(1060): gst_file_src_start (): /GstPlayBin2:play/GstURIDecodeBin:uridecodebin0/GstFileSrc:source:system error: Input/output error

This appears to be timing-specific – we're already catching errors and sending up a proper message when we detect a hardware problem here.
I was able to reproduce it twice, but haven't seen it again – will keep trying.

Unable to reproduce in ten tries today, along with various attempts throughout the week. I am still seeing the errors from GStreamer, but Shotwell gracefully catches them all and tells me it couldn't import the movies due to hardware failure (although, on occasion, it'll claim it succeeded when it didn't – see #3195 (closed) for details).
Tentatively setting to 'closed – works for me' for now, will follow up with Adam on Monday.
